| DA 12 to host international meetings in April by Danilo E. Doguiles Koronadal City (2 February) -- Preparations are underway for two international gatherings in General Santos City that the Department of Agriculture 12 (DA-12) will sponsor in about two months from now. DA 12 Regional Executive Director Tommy Ala said, the department will host the 8th Brunei-Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines East Asian Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA) Natural Resources Development (NRD) Cluster Meeting and the 1st High Value Aquaculture Business Conference from April 5?9, 2010 in General Santos City. During the five-day business conference and NRD cluster meeting, delegates will discuss pressing issues and concerns affecting BIMP-EAGA member countries particularly pertaining to development the agro-industry sector, Director Ala said. Ala added, the two activities will also be a venue for consolidation of opportunities and exchanges of knowledge in the area of high value aquaculture. Hosting the conferences is an honor for the Region and an opportunity to showcase not only the Philippines but also Region 12?s agriculture and aquaculture area and products, he said. High value aquaculture and agriculture product exhibits, business forum on Mindanao trade and investment opportunities will also be held alongside the conference. The NRD Cluster is one of the four development clusters in the BIMP-EAGA that specifically address sub-regional concerns in the area of agro-industry, fisheries cooperation, forestry and environment, and energy development. The Philippines is the lead country and standing chair of the working groups on agro-industry and fisheries cooperation under the NRD cluster.
